Our Goal
Build stability in individuals as quickly as possible through personalized, comprehensive, cost-effective treatment plans for inpatient services and outpatient support.  Our guiding principles are to treat all with respect, manners, kindness and professionalism.
Admission is available 24/7/365. Physician consultations are available. Individuals may be admitted on either a voluntary or involuntary basis. Involuntary admissions typically occur when one is a danger to self or others, or when one becomes gravely disabled and unable to execute the normal activities of daily life.

At West Springs Hospital we treat patients with a variety of mental health conditions and concerns, including the following:

  • Suicidal feelings/thoughts/attempts/threats and/or risks of self-harm
  • Homicidal intentions, threats or violent acts
  • Psychotic symptoms including auditory, tactile or visual hallucinations
  • Being ‘gravely disabled’ & unable to make decisions to keep oneself safe due to altered mental status
  • Depression that negatively affects daily functioning
  • Paranoia that negatively affects daily functioning
  • Feelings of extreme anxiety or panic
  • ‘Manic’ behaviors and  symptoms
  • Delusional thinking that puts oneself or others at risk
  • Return of symptoms due to discontinuing psychiatric medications

Preparing for Admission
If you or a loved one is preparing for admission  consider these suggestions:

  • Please bring up to three (3) complete changes of clothing, including socks, bedtime clothing, underwear, seasonal outerwear and shoes, including gym shoes for recreation time.  Please note underwire bras are not permitted.
  • Bring personal care items such as hair brush/comb, toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, notebook, stamps, paperback books, special pillow or blanket.
  • Please DO NOT bring belts, shoelaces, clothing with drawstrings, cell phones, digital and electronic devices including music players, hardback books, jewelry, cash or anything of value.

Upon admission, each patient is thoroughly evaluated and re-assessed daily with his or her personalized treatment team to determine progress toward discharge goals. A patient’s individual needs & circumstances determine the length of their stay.

Psychiatrists, nurses, therapists, mental health workers, social workers and case workers come together as a personalized treatment team to assist our patients and their support systems in a variety of areas including family dynamics, social and medication issues, and discharge and post-discharge planning. Individuals may participate in various support groups, based on their diagnosis, level of functioning and specific treatment needs as identified by the treatment team.

Our treatment programs include an intensive range of modalities including medication management, medication education, individual therapy, family therapy, psychosocial rehabilitation education and case management services.  While many people who have a psychiatric disorder may also have a substance abuse disorder, we are not a substance abuse treatment hospital.  We do provide education and referrals for specific substance abuse concerns.

Family Participation
Families and significant others are highly encouraged to participate in their loved ones’ treatment and it is a required for families of child and adolescent patients. Family involvement is imperative to a minor’s treatment and ensures better outcomes for the patient. All efforts are made to help the patient’s support system understand his or her illness from a multi-dimensional perspective that ultimately promotes healing and stability.

Access our Family Guide to learn more about the support services available to all of our patients’ family members.

While your loved one is a patient in our hospital we encourage you to call and visit. Having visitors helps patients feel supported and cared for by those who are important in their lives. Because of limited space, we ask that you call ahead and schedule your visit in advance.
